I gave Project Mew way too much credit. I assumed they were challenging aspiring researchers to improve so that they could one day officially join the search for Mew, which would require insanely tough trainers.
But no.
THIS WHOLE TIME the Prof had a working idea of EXACTLY where Mew was. So in theory, he could have simply approached the Masters Eight during a break and asked them for help. What, like they would have said no? Not only would it have been a great training experience, they could beef up their teams with legendaries. If you have to be restricted to one Pokemon at such a time, I'd rather it be Masters Eight worthy, that's all I'm saying.

there are multiples of various legendaries in the anime. theres like 2 or more mews(3 or more if you count the mirage mew), 2 mewtwos(3 if you count the mirage mewtwo),, 2 or 3 darkrais, at least 2 heatrans, 2 or 3 suicunes, 3 or more lugias including the baby, 2 arceus's, 2 or more celebis,.. so they are not the same groudon and kyogre. mew is also a psychic-type, so its possible that the groudon and kyoger here are psychic manifestations like venustoise was.
